Gov. Ambode In Cold War With Fashola Over Alleged N20Billion Contractors’ Money … Why He Sacked Accountant- General
Since Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode assumed office as the executive governor of the state, he has made it known that it is not business as usual. The governor has met with government officials in the state reading the riot acts to them. In fact, needless to say he has tampered with some of the policies of his predecessor, Babatunde Fashola. Only recently, he announced the dissolution of heads of boards, agencies
and parastatals, a move that seriously affected some of the loyalists of Fashola in which the latter’s sister, Yinka Fashola was affected. Yinka Fashola was the head of Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA). Gbenga Akintola who is also said to be another loyalist of Fashola was also a victim of Governor Ambode’s sledge hammer. Akintola before his sack was the chairman of Lagos State Public Works Bureau. And if you think the governor is done, you might be wrong. This is so because latest information reaching us revealed that there is no love lost between Governor Ambode and Fashola as the former is said not to be happy with the disappearance of N20 billion from the state coffers. Inside source divulged to us that at the tail end of Fashola’s administration, when the former governor was preparing to vacate office for Ambode, this sum of money was paid out and former governor was quoted to have said that the money was used to pay off all contractors handling one project or the other in the state. That he doesn’t want to leave the burden on Gov. Ambode’s. The former governor was also alleged to have said that he doesn’t want to leave office while owing contractors in the state. But Governor Ambode who was one time accountant-general of Lagos State was said to have taken the former governor’s claim with a pinch of salt. Not wanting to rock the boat, according to our inside source, Ambode preferred to remain silent and diplomatic on the issue. Instead, the governor is said to have gone after the accountant-general who, according to him should know better about the whole shenanigans. Recently, Governor Ambode appointed another accountant- general in person of Shukurat Abimbola Umar.
