It is not in doubt that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu wields so much power politically in the country especially in the Southwest where he is seen as a Lord in the political ring. A fact President Mohammadu Buhari has just backed by making him the unifying arrowhead of the disunity that is threatening to tear the party apart.
Despite, this glowing facts about Jagaban’s influence, one of his trusted lieutenants, Governor Rauf Aregbesola Of Osun State is mapping out ways of upstaging Asiwaju as the leader in the Southwest.
Many may want to contest this fact, but those who are privilege enough to know, know that Aregbesola has started a journey and won’t stop until he is seen as the ultimate commander of political colony of the south western states.
Feelers have it that it was indeed the beard wearing governor Aregbesola who is helping in fueling the embers of enmity between Tinubu and some of his former loyal disciples including some ex governors; it is believed that the role the Osun governor is playing, we gathered is shielding the affected from Asiwaju.
It is on record that in his failed quest to colonize Ondo State, that he appointed Hon Bola Ilori a politician of Ondo town origin into a public office in Osun State, Ilori has been spearheading his failed bids to take over the Sunshine state. He passed this project as Tinubu’s project, when it failed he cleverly allowed Tinubu to bear the disgrace alone.
He has also been making frantic moves in making sure that his stooge from his Alimosho Lagos base, Senator Olamilekan Adeola Solomon should take over power in the gateway state. Meanwhile, the senator seems to be chasing dreams because of the fact that the incumbent governor has vowed vehemently not to allow the senator who is popularly known as Yayi achieve the dream.
To Governor Aregbesola, if the Yayi trick works out in Ogun, it will be easier to install a successor in Osun.
He has also formed an alliance with the current Minister of Communication Barrister Adebayo Shittu in making sure that his own person gets into the driver’s seat of the pace setter state without thinking of what his boss Asiwaju wants.
In Ekiti, he knows how strong Governor Ayo Fayose is, and he doesn’t mind in working with him so far he will do his biddings. However, we heard he is still very careful because he is waiting for the direction Asiwaju wants to go before finally giving nod to another popular candidate.
In Lagos, Aregbesola is aware of the popularity Governor Ambode is garnering daily and he knows there is no chance for him until 2023 when Ambode would have finished his second term in office. By that time Aregbesola believes he would be in the senate from Lagos where he’ll have enough power to pick Ambo’s successor.
Alimosho, the political base of Aregbesola has been given a tall order not to give away reelection bid of Governor Ambode in 2019.
Other areas too have the same order and that is why many are of the opinion that it will not be very easy for Governor Ambode to get the party ticket based on the underground works of Governor Aregbesola.
