Senator Hope Uzodinma may not have won the 2019 Imo State gubernatorial election, but the Supreme Court declared him the winner of the election that many are wondering how it came to be. Many have posited that Hope did not only lost but came a distant 4th in the election that took place in March last year. However, it was gathered that the error was not that of the Supreme Court’s, but that of Governor Emeka Ihedioha’s legal team; who failed to do the needful that is required by law.
The Supreme Court only worked on the fact presented to it that 350 units’ results that were duly sined by INEC’ s presiding officers that were transmitted to the wards collation centres were rejected. The collation officers, who had no power in law to cancel or reject them, rejected the said polling units results, and refused to collate them,
The exclusion of the results of those polling units was the fulcrum of the petition presented at the Tribunal by Hope Uzodinma.
The backbreaking and fatal error made by Ihedioha’s legal team was in not filing a CROSS PETITION fiercely challenging the integrity of the suspect polling units results upon which Uzodinma was relying, and praying the election tribunal to formally nullify the said results. The failure to do this was what gave the victory to Hope.
Meanwhile, many more have been talking about Senators Ararume that he should been the one to claim the seat. But what many do not understand is, you can’t give what you don’t have. Ararume only approached the court for a rerun and not the rejection of any valid vote
