Rivers residents defy govt’s appeals, rain, join nationwide protest

Despite appeals from the government, traditional institutions and other groups, residents of Rivers State braved the rain on Thursday to participate in the nationwide protest.

In Port Harcourt, the demonstrations was staged by different groups with no specific leaders.

Many shops and businesses were closed, likely out of fear of looting.

Vehicular traffic was sparse, and the atmosphere was like election days, with quiet streets.

Protesters moved from different locations on the Aba/Port Harcourt Expressway to Ikwerre Road.

The demonstration, driven by demands for policy reforms, continued despite the light rain.

Protesters chanted “We are hungry” and “APC must go,” dancing to Idris Abdulkareem’s hit song, ‘Nigeria Jaga Jaga’, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

Police and other security agencies were visibly present, stationed at key points to ensure a peaceful and coordinated event.

So far, the protest has remained calm and peaceful.
