Nigeria’s electricity generation drops to 5,060.10mw, days after Power Minister celebrated historic surge

Nigeria’s electricity generation dropped to a 5,060.10 megawatts peak as of September 9, 2024.

This is according to official national grid performance data obtained on Monday.

The figure represents a significant drop from the 5,313mw recorded a week ago.

The development comes barely a week after the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu celebrated as the country’s electricity generation rose to 5,313mw, for the first time in three years.

However, the latest records have shown that electricity generation has declined to 5,060.10mw, making Adelabu’s celebration shortlived.

Nigeria’s electricity generation has remained inadequate for a population estimated at over 200 million despite huge investments in the sector.
