Nigerians should be unapologetic in promoting their country — VON DG Ndace

Director General of Nigeria’s external broadcaster, Voice of Nigeria, VON, Malam Jibrin Ndace, has insisted that Nigerians needed to be unapologetic in telling their stories.

He urged all Nigerians to be courageous in depicting the Nigerian cultures and tribes.

Ndace made the call when he paid a courtesy call on the Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon, Abasi Otu V, on Thursday.

He said if Nigerians do not blow their trumpets, no other person would do that.

“There are enough positive stories to tell about Calabar, Nigeria and Africa, ranging from our diversity, dynamism, and the beauty of our dressings to the way we respect our traditional institutions.

“We are determined and unapologetic about building a positive narrative about Nigeria and Africa,” he explained.

He also spoke of the importance of traditional institutions, saying without them the situation would have been worse.

The VON boss called on the younger generation to know the roles the traditional institutions played in peacebuilding.

Ndace noted that the country is presently in a very difficult era in terms of information sharing and management, largely because of social media disinformation.

Responding, the Obong of Calabar commended the VON boss for his determination to portray Nigeria in good light.

The Efik monarch stated that it is important for the nation’s culture to be projected.

He noted that the history of the country needed to be returned fully to the educational curriculum.
