Nasarawa Assembly clears NASIEC nominee over alleged age falsification

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA) Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions has cleared Mr. Mukhtar Mamman Angbashim, a nominee for the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), of allegations of age falsification.

The allegation was contained in a petition submitted to the House a week ago.

The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Luka Iliya Zhekaba (PDP, Obi II), presented the report during a plenary session in Lafia on Monday.

Zhekaba stated that the petitioners failed to appear before the committee when invited and did not provide any documents or evidence to support their claim of age falsification against Mr. Angbashim.

“Therefore, it is null and void, and lacks merit. In the interest of fairness, justice, and equity, the House should proceed to screen the nominee and, if possible, confirm him,” Zhekaba added.

Responding to the report, Speaker of the House, Danladi Jatau directed the Clerk to inform Mr. Angbashim to reappear for screening on Tuesday, July 23, at 10 am.

Mr. Angbashim, a history lecturer at the state-owned College of Education in Akwanga, had been stepped down last week during the initial screening for his appointment as a member of NASIEC due to the petition submitted to the House.
