Euro 2024 Final: Alan Shearer names England star who wasn’t happy with Southgate

Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer has said that England attacking midfielder Jude Bellingham wasn’t happy with manager Gareth Southgate because of his positioning in the Euro 2024 final.

Shearer said he could see Bellingham’s frustration during the encounter, adding that the Real Madrid star was looking for guidance and showing emotions during the Euro 2025 final.

England lost l 2-1 against Spain in the Euro 2024 final at Olympiastadion Berlin on Sunday.

Bellingham played the entire game and provided the assist for Cole Palmer’s goal.

But his overall performance was not really impressive as Southgate put Bellingham on the left side of midfield against Spain.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast (via Caught Offside), Shearer said:

“Bellingham wasn’t happy. He was stuck on the left again. You could tell he wasn’t happy at all. He had a disappointed look about him, his arms were up, he was looking towards the bench for guidance. He could see things weren’t going well and he wasn’t happy with the lack of press and everything else.

“He was showing all of those emotions. I could see it, I was looking at him all the time. He was showing it to the bench. He’s not a left midfielder is he so I sort of understood his emotions. I was really surprised Gareth Southgate went back to four at the back.”
